Greetings all,

I bought that book when it first came out and still have it. At the
time it was estimated that controlled fusion was 30 years away. That 30
year time line hasn't changed.

From my perspective, we will never achieve controlled fusion as a
sustainable and economically viable alternative to carbon recycling.
Controlled fusion is a pipe dream and a waste of time and resources.

The only theoretical possibility is a Dyson sphere, which is well beyond
our capability. Besides, a Dyson Sphere is catastrophically unstable,
the gravitational effects of other plants would tear the structure apart.
