Hurricane Florence and Charleston, SC

Hello everyone,
So far, we are doing fine. I put up the hurricane shutters on our house,
and pulled in everything that was outside. Fortunately for us, Florence has
stayed mostly north of Charleston. We didn't even get any rain or wind
until late last night. I think we have had less than one inch of rain. The
Ashley River is only one street away from our house, but we didn't expect it
to overflow, and it hasn't.

The power hasn't gone out, neither has cable TV nor Internet access. We
have a whole-house generator just in case, and an off-air TV antenna for
these situations. No trees have come down so far. I think the Washington
D.C. area has received more rain than we have!

My mother lives on Oak Island, NC, which is just south of Wilmington. As of
yesterday evening, she had not lost power either, and was also in good
shape. Her house had hurricane shutters put up too. She had had several
days of rain, but her house is on one of the highest points of the island,
so less likely to be flooded or washed away by storm surge.

Thanks to everyone who was concerned, we are doing good.
