Was in Germany this week, and found, in an advertisement in the August 
2004 issue of the magazine "Funk Amateur" a "Sommer-Spezial" 
advertisement for the ICOM IC-706 MKIIG . It apparently sells in Germany 
for 899 Euros (including VAT, the Value Added Tax). At the current rate 
of exchange, that is a mere $1,084

The same equipment is currently available from my local ham radio shop 
for $749 plus 4.5% Virginia sales tax = $783.

The benefits of the Value Added Tax will never cease to amaze me.
