So the research team that discovered the Volkswagen diesel emissions 
"cheat mode" did so by comparing lab results with on-the-road results. 
To do that required a lot of equipment ride along in the car, and it 
takes a LOT of power to run everything, more that what you could get out 
of a 12V outlet on the dashboard.

Of course, there was only one solution:
